What Causes Itchy Red Bumps On Labia Majora?

For a few months now, I've been getting tiny itchy red bumps on my labia majora. I'm not sexually active but I was a couple months before it started happening. I went to the doctor a few times. The first time they said it was a bacteria infection. The symptoms came back and I went back a second time about two months later. The gave me the same treatment. About three months later, the itchy red bumps were back again. I went to a different doctor and got check again. I got a pap smear and blood drawn. Everything came back negative so the doctor gave my a jock itch cream. I was wondering if you could give me any answers because I don't think they know. Can you please help?

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching us.

I understand your problem.Though you are not sexually active now but you might have acquired a sexually transmitted disease( through oral, vaginal, and anal sex),when you were active. This most probably is due to a virus named Herpes simplex, for this you need antiviral treatment.

Secondly it might be due to sensitivity to chemicals or irritants(contact dermatitis),or caused by allergies (atopic dermatitis). You should visit a gynecologist for this.

In the meantime avoid known irritants, such as abrasive soaps or strong fragrances. You may find some relief through a sitz bath. This helps to relieve any pain and discomfort associated with the sores. This can be done at home by filling the bathtub with warm water that goes up to your hips. You may add a mild saline solution or baking soda to the water. While you can purchase small basins for sitz baths from a drugstore, you can also use a regular bath.

Hope it helped.Take care
