What Causes Itchy Bumps Above Clitoris During Pregnancy?

Hello, I am a 28 year old female, six months pregnant. I have been diagnosed with HPV, and has only resulted in colposcopy and leep procedures (internal). A few months back, I started to develop itchy, bumps above my clitoris (labia majora). The bump in the center, where the labia majora begin is hard, the surrounding bumps are soft. No white that I can see, but are starting to bother me. Could this be a form of genital warts from the HPV i was diagnosed with? I have only had intercourse with my husband and he shows no symptoms or bumps.

Hello and I hope I can help you today.

It is unlikely that the bumps on your clitoris have anything to do with HPV, especially since you only has the type of HPV that causes abnormal PAP smears and never had warts.

Many skin glands, moles and other bumps can grow larger from the hormones during pregnancy. There are sweat glands near your clitoris which can swell and get blocked, especially if you wear tight clothing or live in a warm climate.

The best way to treat this is to apply warm compresses to the area every day and wash the area with mild soap and rinse well. Wear loose clothing and underwear to let the area breathe. You should show the bumps to your doctor when you have your next pregnancy appointment so they can confirm the diagnosis.

I hope this information was helpful and best of luck for the rest of the pregnancy.

Sincerely, Dr. Brown
