What Causes Itchy And Dry Patches On The Legs And Back?

My son is 19 years old. A few months ago he developed very itchy dry patches on his legs, back + trunk. He saw a dermatologist who prescribed cortisone 10% cream + it improved. A few weeks ago he developed raw patches in his armpits that were almost bleeding + very painful. He stopped using deodorant + I had him apply zinc oxide to the areas which helped. Now he has a lump on the back of his neck that is not itchy or painful. His trainer (he plays college baseball) noticed it yesterday. Any idea if these could be related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Consult a dermatologist, it could be psoriasis. If not some antihistamines then topical ointments can help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anusuya Ramesh
