What Causes Itching On Body?

Why do I have this terrible itching (without rash, dry skin or allergies)? I am a 59 y/o woman in OK health, no real pre-existing problems. However in the last 6-8 weeks I have had the worst itching of my life. The way it starts is it feels like a bad mosquito bite, but once I start itching, it multiplies exponentially! I feel like I could itch it down to the bone...and I don t break the skin itching, but I am leaving multiple bruises from itching! There is no rash, and as far as I can figure, nothing that can be attributed to allergies. I m not an allergy prone person. Called my doc, he ordered a Free T4, to see if it was my thyroid (I have a history of low thyroid, having 1/2 removed for a goiter 38 years ago). I rec d letter from the lab/dr saying it was fine, altho it said it was .36 in a range of .47-1.4..?? I ve been suspected of having RA but blood tests do not support it, but I have fairly severe joint pain from something- either arthritis or fibro, for which I take close to maximum amt of tylenol or ibu, and current Etodalac(24hr) and I know that s not good for me, but I need to function! Not sure if relevant, but I also tend to have low platelets running below 100 or so...that s been checked for anything serious 2 or 3 years ago and it s fine. All else is fine with me. Please don t tell me to go see my doc, he s hard to get an appt with, and I have to go out of town in the morning and will be gone for 2 weeks...so I happened on this site and thought it was worth a try-I really hope you can help me! thanks.

It is difficult to attribute the exact cause of your itching. You can take an antihistaminic like fexofenadine to relieve your itching. You may also apply an Aloe Vera cream to relieve your itching. You need to get certain blood tests like complete blood count, liver function test, renal function test, Serum IgE level to rule out any underlying cause of itching.
