What Causes Itching And Redness In The Vagina?

Good evening! I have an ongoing problem for a month now and it becomes quite upseting. It all started with a bath using sea mineral bath soak. Next day the vaginal area was very red and itchy. After few days it extended towards anus. No bad smell or discharge. All clean...just the redness ans itchiness. I tried various creams but unfortunately they did not work. The doctor prescribed me this week hydrocortizone 1%. This seemed to have worked and reduced the redness however after using it for 2 days the itchiness got only worse. I will need to get back to GP probably next week. Could you advise anything, please? Thank you in advance! Ela

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM
The treatment on your condition will depend on the underlying cause. At times, symptomatic management of such without handling etiology may not yield best results.Possible causes of your condition could be: Local vaginal/perineal infection by a bacteria or fungi, STI like syphilis or herpes.Other causes like local skin irritation and allergy may respond well to your cream.I will suggest you see the Doctor again for an STI investigation.
You may add an anti-histamine like benadryl to hydrocortizone. This may help in your itches while waiting for an etiologic management.
Hope this will help
Best regards
