What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation In The Vagina?

Hello. Yesterday I visited my friend (60 years old woman) and she complained about problems with itching and burning on the clitoris and the vagina. Judging by her description, it looks like a thrush. I made her go to the doctor. The doctor also suggested that it is a thrush, but he prescribed her Cetraben cream. When she told me about it, it seemed to me that from the doctor s side it was a mockery. Firstly, he did not take the swab of the culture to sent it to test. Secondly, trying to cure the thrush by Cetraben is simply impossible. I told my friend that she should go to the doctor again and demand that he get her swab and after test namingachili correct treatment. I advised her to go to the pharmacy and ask for flukonozole, but I presume that it will not be sold without a prescription. My main question is: HOW DOCTOR WITHOUT RESEARCH SAID THAT IT IS A THRUSH, WHY HE PRESCRIBED HER CETRABEN AND NOTHING MORE? Explane please.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for the query at HealthcareMagic

Vaginal candidiasis can be diagnosed without a swab. Typical clinical presentation can strongly suggest the diagnosis of Candida.
Treatment with topical Cetraben is very effective. Oral fuconazole is harmful to liver especially in the elderly.

Hope this answers your question
