What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation In The Vagina?

Since November of last year I have had extreme vaginal itching and burning. I thought it was a yeast infection (I ve never had one) and have used over the counter medication 3 different time, with no help. It seems to be getting worse and now my skin is tearing and bleeding. I have not sought medical help on this due to finances. Any clue on what it could be? Any ideas of what might help relieve it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
What problems you are encountering with itching and burning sensation in the vaginal region could be an inflammation of the mucosa associated with bacterial and/or yeast infection.
Kindly do the following to overcome it.
1. Wash the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily.
2. Take Tablet. Levocetirizine once a day to control itching.
3. Apply anti-fungal medication like Fluconazole as vaginal pessary for 3 successive days.
4. Take a course of oral antibiotics Tablet.Metronidazole.
5. Use pH balancing solution like 'V Wash' regularly.
6. Wear loose fitting undergarments to avoid friction in the area.
Maintain good personal hygiene. Your symptoms should get better gradually.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
