What Causes Irritation In The Tongue?

I have two dark purple veins on each side of the back of my tongue that seem a little swollen. I have very dry mouth and feels like i have something rubbing my throat (those veins). Are those purple things normal? I am getting over thrush, could that be risidual of the thrush? I no longer have the white on my tongue but the irritation is bothersome. Any suggestions. I m drinking a lot of water and gargling with salt water.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that purple veins on either side of back of tongue along with dry mouth and thrush seems to be due to inflamed and dilated veins secondary to infection..

As the inflammation will subside the soreness and swelling of veins will also reduce..

I would suggest you treat your dry mouth as dryness can also cause thinning and inflammation of mucosa..
-For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialised mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..
-Suck ice to reduce inflammation..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
