What Causes Irritation And Tightness In The Throat?

I have had a gurgling feeling in my esophagus for nearly a year now (sometimes it even makes an audible sound) and I recently developed a tight feeling in my throat, accompanied by a general feeling of irritation. I am also feeling some irritation in what seems to be the upper chest - a feeling like I may have some slight congestion or irritation there. I am a 43 year old non smoking woman, and am a long time runner with no other health problems. Am I correct in thinking I should see my doctor immediately for a referral to a throat or GI specialist? Could this be some sort of cancer? Is this symptomatic of any particular ailment?

Have queries related to :
- Yes, you should see an NET Surgeon for Endoscopy of the pharynx, and upper GI too.
- Barium meals is also helpful.
- No, this is usually not a cancer.
- This is most probably a pharyngeal or esophageal pouch or herniation.
- If found, you need a corrective surgery.
