What Causes Irregularity In Periods?

I m a healthy 19 year old and only get my periods 3-4 times a year. I have been getting my periods for the last 5 years and not only have they not settled down, but I can go up to 6 months or more without getting any, at one stage it was even a whole year! I am a healthy weight 10.5 stone for 5 7/8, eat healthily and do a moderate amount of cycling every week . In the past, I have been diagnosed with non-epileptic seizures (although this does not affect my period) caused by stress/sleep deprivation and Asperger s syndrome. I have read somewhere though that there could be a possible link between the two and POC. Should I be concerned at all?Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Yes, there can be an associated link between the two. But before that I would suggest a few investigations like a hormone profile panel, thyroid panel, ultrasound of the lower abdomen and pelvis, and especially of the reproductive system. These can provide us with important hints as to locating the problem and accordingly helping you out. speak to an experienced gynecologist.

Best wishes.
