What Causes Irregular Periods?

Hello. I am 20 years old single women. My concern is that My period has become irregular since last two years. Sometimes the time gap is 30 days. Which is believed to be normal. And sometimes the time gap is 45 to 50 days. And also my flow is normal on one cycle but less on other. What is the cause behind this? What should I do to make it regular like proper and stable time gap?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Irregular periods can be due to Polycystic ovarian syndrome or hypothyroidism. So those should be ruled out by doing thyroid profile test and ultrasound examination. In case of hypothyroidism thyroxine supplementation will be helpful to normalize periods. In case of Polycystic ovarian syndrome metformin therapy will be helpful. A consultation with a gynecologist is well appreciated.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
