What Causes Involuntary Body Twitching In A Child?

My daughter is 12 years old and has began having involuntary body twitching-looks like she is shuddering, as if cold. Completely healthy otherwise. Only thing to note is that our whole family passed around a flu virus 2-3 weeks ago, but her brothers said they had noticed her doing this before that.

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. Involuntary body twitching can have numerous causes from chorea, athetosis, tics, myoclonus, convulsions, tremor, dyskinesia, dystonia so an appointment with a Pediatriician or a Neurologist is a must who will ask for an MRI/EEG.

2. A Physician should always search for the heart [for any valvular lesion], search for exophthalmos, butterfly rash on face, signs of hepato cellular failure, K-F ring in cornea or polycythemia.

3. Although you noticed these symptoms earlier even then consultation with an infectious disease doctor is must since influenza [flu] virus do cause cerebral palsy.
