What Causes Intermittent Pain In Ear And Neck?

Hi, my name is Jennifer. my ear began to hurt today. it is tender to the touch. I have a little pain down the side of my neck. I was diagnosed last month with outer ear and sinus infection. I went to an ENT and he gave me some antibiotics that made me very sick. I went to my PCP and he prescribed a different antibiotic. It seemed to help, but this pain still comes and goes. Today, it is throbbing on and off. Do you still think I have an outer ear infection. my throat is also a bit sore. Thanks.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that earache along with radiating pain to side of neck and sore throat along with a history of ear infection seems to be due to ear infection that is either lingering since one month or has recurred..
As ear and throat are connected via Eustachian tube therefore ear infection might have communicated to throat leading to sore throat..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like otoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised another course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller, decongestant nasal drops and antibiotic and analgesic ear drops..
You should limit of excess water exposure to ears like swimming..
Do warm saline gargles and take steam and sauna throat lozenges for sore throat..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
