What Causes Intermittent Diarrhea And Gastritis Despite Taking Prevacid?

This week I have been having occasional diarrhea, epigastric pain and nausea. Its pretty constant but the pain becomes worse if I don t eat. When I do eat, I have bloating, gurgling and gas. I have also had spells of dizziness and chills as well as headache. I am type 2 diabetic. I take Prevacid daily and have been needing to supplement with ranitidine. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Hi,

At the outset I would like to know what all medicines you are taking for diabetes because few medicines may cause bloating and gastrointestinal disturbances. Spells of dizziness might be related to alteration in sugar level. I would advise you to take lots of fluids and ORS solution to counter dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

Since you are diabetic than there are more chances of diabetic ketoacidosis with these symptoms. In my opinion you should immediately go to Emergency care for checking of blood sugar level and urine for ketone bodies to rule out diabetic ketoacidosis and timely treatment with Intravenous fluid and insulin if need be.

You can take antacids like gelusil and antacids for symptomatic relief and pantoprazole group of drugs.
