What Causes Intermenstrual Bleeding Along With Lower Abdominal Pain?

11 days after my monthly I suddenly started bleeding for a day and a half. It was light but still worrying. I also had and still have a bit of understanding comfortable pain in my left lower abdomen close to where my ovaries would be. I do have a history of ovarian cysts but have never had abnormal bleeding between periods. Painful bleeding but never between bleeding. Also I had tubal litigation done 9 years ago. And I am only 38 years old. Is there anything I should be asking my primary care Dr to look for or would this be considered somewhat normal for my history?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Intermenstrual bleeding is a symptoms most women will present at one time in their lives. However, it is always good to investigate the cause especially when associated with abdominal pains.Possible causes of this symptom may include:
-Hormonal imbalances
-Ovarian cyst/pelvic masses
-Pelvic inflammatory disease/STIs
-Pregnancy and related complications though not the case with you
I will suggest you see your Doctor for examination. He may request for a pelvic ultrasound that may reveal any organic causes and STI work-ups to eliminate infectious causes.
The management of the condition will depend on the underlying cause.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
