What Causes Increased Heart Rate While Resting?

HI, my resting heart rate is at 110. If I am in the kitchen, say cooking, it can go above 130. Is that normal? I had VT in the past subsequent to chemo and had a defibrilator put in. It has been ok for over a year but it is fast now and I am sitting. My electrophysiologist is no longer covered by my insurance and I need to wait a couple of months until I can switch insurances to see her again. Should I be worried?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that these changes in your heart rate are quite normal.

Your resting heart rate is a little high, but if you do not experience any shortness of breath or palpitations, there is nothing to worry about.

You should know that it is quite normal to have an increased heart rate during physical activity or emotional stress.

Anyway, if you experience symptoms like shortness of breath or dizziness, I would recommend going to the ER for a resting ECG and some blood lab tests : complete blood count for anemia, blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone levels.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
