What Causes Hpf Pus Cells In Urine During Pregnancy?
Hello Team, My wife is 9 weeks pregnant. This is her first pregnancy and she is twenty seven. As per routine our doctor suggested Medical tests in 9th week. All reports are normal except Urine Examination. 10-15 / HPF Puss cells were observed. Our doctor suggested for urine culture (reports yet to come) We are little bit tensed. all the other reports are normal. Please let us know why this infections occurs ? Any precautions suggested highly appreciated. With gratitude, xxxxx
Urinary tract infections are very common in pregnant women. This happens because the physiology of women during pregnancy changes. High levels of progesterone may lead to a weakness of bladder or ureters muscles, so the urine stays for a longer time in urinary tract and cause infections. Vaginal pH may change too, and raise the possibility for infections.
I would suggest you nitrofurantoin or cephalexin to treat urinary tract infection till the results of urine culture come out, this drugs don't harm the pregnancy. Than your doctor may change the cure according to the results.
I wish all the best for you and a good pregnancy to your wife. Dr Eriol.
