What Causes Horrible Cough With Green Mucus?

Hi, i'm 2o years old and about 9 1/2 stone. For as long as i have known i have had a very horrible cough and constantly produce mucus with my cough. No matter how much i clear it it will reproduce. It's pretty embarassing for me as i feel i cannot be around my friends for long without coughing. It is indeed green mucus. I have been to see the doctor about this a number of times but after check up, he has said he hears nothing and my breathing is clear. My sister has asthma and my mother and brother also have a mild case not too severe.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult pulmonologist.
By your history and description, possibility of asthma or lung infection is more.
Asthma runs in family and you are having positive family history for asthma.
So consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray.
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
It will also tell you about severity of the disease.
And treatment of asthma is based on severity only.
You may need antibiotics, antihistamines, anti allergic drugs, inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
So better to first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
