Hi, I am a 45 year old male and I have recently stopped smoking completely (3 months) after spending 7 months alternating between an e cigarette and normal cigarettes, I ve encountered and passed the shortness of breath stage, however my voice gets quite hoarse towards the end of the day, would you be able to tell me why this is? Many thanks Jason wright

Hello Jason,
Thank you for writing to us on Health care Magic.

Based on your history the response to your question is as follows.
1. hoarseness of voice at the end of the day is caused due to continuous irritation of the vocal cords.
2. Do get an ENT examination done to rule out any polyps or tumors on the vocal cord, which could be causing early irritation of vocal cords. Because of the smoking history, this evaluation is necessary.
3. Hope you have no gastritis or reflux esophagitis. If present, proton pump inhibitors with domperidone will be effective. Acidity can irritate vocal cords.
4. For time being, use a mask, and see if its helpful to avoid allergies. Never start smoking again. Meet your doctor for tests and prescription.
Hope this is helpful to you.
