What Causes High Fever And Fluctuating Sugar Levels With Presence Of Ketones In Urine?

Hi Doc, my son is 10 years old and found traces of ketones in urine. He has high fever since last two days and fluctuating sugar levels probably due to dehydration as it is common during illness.I m diabetic so wondering is that could be the reason?

Respected Sir/ Mam,
Looking at the scenario and the information you have provided, Your son may have type-1 diabetes also called Insulin dependant diabetes. Infections do precipitate a condition associated with Type 1 diabetes called Diabetic ketoacidosis. As a biochemist/ geneticist i can think of few other conditions which could cause ketoacidosis other than Type 1 diabetes. if you could provide me with more details like lab reports/ and glucose levels it would be easy to proceed further. hope i have answered your question
I find this answer helpful
