What Causes High Blood Pressure?

I just went for a health screening at work today. I'm a 36 year old female, 5'9 and weigh 164. I was told that my cholesterol was 168 and my blood pressure was 146/94. I've been told by my doctor previously about my blood pressure being high. I don't understand how that could be if I'm in good physical health.

Thanks for the query. I understand your worry but you need to realize that there is a sizeable no of patients (approx50% or more) who do not get the cause of hypertension in spite of no risk factor and thorough evaluation. So the conclusion is, if we dont get the cause of hypertension by evaluating kidneys and hormonal workup, we just have to accept it and concentrate on controlling it rather than adding to the problems by worrying about it. It could be because of the genetic makeup or even high salt intake for long duration also.
Wish you a good health ahead.
