What Causes High Blood Pressure?

What would cause a rise in blood pressure. For years I test at 140/80. Now is 160/100. Rise took place in less than 1 month. Is staying that high unless Lorsartan is doubled. I was switched from Lantus to Basaglar in Mar. Higher readings started about a month or so later.
