Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...My 80 year old mother's BP is 161/116 Pulse 110. I gave her 1/2 more of a pill called quinapril to see if it goes down. if it does not go down, should I take her to hospital?

Hi..welcome to healthcare magic .com... Hypertension ...it has a list of causes ..it may be primary or secondary. In old age the blood vessels become stiff due to calcium deposit and the blood pressure rises... You should start her on amlodipine 10 mg once a day.. If her blood pressure come down with it then continue this drug if not then increase the dose to 10 mg. But it would be better if you consult a cardiologist he will advice some blood test.. Urine analysis and ECG...
