What Causes High Blood Pressure Despite Taking Ramipril?

Hello, I have been prescribed a higher dose of Ramipril (10 mg from 5 mg ) which I started taking yesterday. It does not appear to be working yet to lower the BP reading which is about 147/ 79 two hours after taking it. The reading before taking the med was 151/84. I had similar readings yesterday Regards Anne /

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for the question.
Beside the fact that you should take the medication (dosage, time) as described by your doctor, you should take in consideration to make some lifestyle changing (healthy lifestyle), to help with your Blood Pressure levels.Losing weight if you are overweight or obese.
Quitting smoking.Eating a healthy diet(eating more fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy products, less saturated and total fat). Reducing the amount of sodium in your diet.
If you still don t have any improvment, you should consuld your cardiologist and take in consideration to add a Diuretic beside Ramipril.
Best regards!
