What Causes High WBC In A Bronchitis Suffering Child?

My 6 month old has had a cough and labored breathing for a month and a half, no other symptoms. It is mostly in the night and mornings that he is coughing The have given him Albuterol which I am to give him 3 times a day. He also was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis three weeks ago. I took him in for his well child exam and the doctor did a blood test which showed he had a high white blood cell count and ordered a x-ray which was clear. I have been at the doctors weekly and am wondering if you have any suggestions.

Welcome to HCM

Bronchilitis is a viral infection of the lungs, in children less than 2 years, usually caused by Respiratory syncytial virus. The course of illness is self limiting.

Usually in all infections, let it be either bacterial or viral, WBC counts will be elevated. The important thing to be seen is the neutrophils and lymphocytes.

Anyways according to your history your baby should be in recovering phase of bronchiolitis. And the CXR is also clear. So you do not worry about the high WBC counts.

You can stop all the medications.

Give only Nasoclear nasal drops, 2 drops in each nostril thrice a day for 3 days.
He should be fine soon.
