What Causes Hepatitis-C?

Hello there, I was wondering if you could help understand Hep c. Someone whom I have recently been seeing just made it known to me that her mother had Hep C and that when she was tested for it, the test found traces of Hep C in her system. She said that the Hep is in a dormant stage, and the doctors told her not to worry about it? My question is how much risk am I putting myself in when being in a sexually active relationship with her?

Even dormant virus can be active at anytime and may infect you. So better to use barrier contraception ( condoms). Once a patient is in active stage of infection, she may soread the infection with sexual contact, because virus sheds in bodily fluids easily and may infect the other person who is in sexual contact with the patient.


Repeat her tests every 6 monthly including the ultrasound of right upper quadrant of the abdomen to see the liver status. Hepatitis C virus attacks the liver tissue and may also lead to cancer of the liver (HCC).
