What Causes Hematoma On The Surgical Site Of Liposuction?

I had lipo of the abdomen 10 days ago. After 6 days I went in to check with plastic surgeon and he said it could be a hematoma massage it out. So I started putting a heating pad on it that night and massaging it everyday. It is still there and hard. Its about 2 wide and 1/2 tall. Hard to the touch. Do you think its a hematoma and what should I do to get rid ofit.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on the description, a hematoma is definitely possible. The hardness is due to possible fibrosis which refers to the formation of scar tissue at any site of inflammation/injury.

The fibrosis can improve but it can take weeks to months to do so.

The use of the heat pads along with anti inflammatory medication such as naproxen or cataflam , would be helpful.

I hope this helps
