What Causes Heavy Vaginal Discharge After A Hysterectomy?

I had a BSO and hysterectomy 1 month ago with removal of pelvic mass and omentectomy. Diagnosis was stage IIIC ovarian cancer. I had no vaginal discharge until 2 weeks post-op, then I started having a discharge (dark yellow to light brown). Then in the 4 th week post op, the discharge has increased to gushing during my sleep and once during the day. It is odorless and sometimes clear. I am wondering if this discharge is urine, peritoneal fluid, or discharge from the surgery healing???

Hello and welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.

I understand your query.

The discharge may be anything from infection, urine, peritoneal fluid, or recurrence of malignancy in the vault.
So please get an examination by your gynecologist as a per speculum examination will be needed along with microscopy and culture of discharge to determine its origin. Treatment will then depend upon the results.

I understand the concern as you have already undergone a major surgery. However this will get corrected after examination and proper treatment.

Hope this was helpful.
Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
