What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding While On Implanon?

I have been on Implanon NXT for the last 3 months and have had very bad and very heavy bleeding. I was on Implanon after my second son was born and didnt get my period for three years. This time it seems to be the opposite. I am going to see my doctor soon to get it taken out. Is there any other treatment for heavy periods at my age as the doctor will not give me the pill. I am 43 years old. Please advise.
