What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding Post Intercourse?

Last night, after going 4 months without having sex, I had sex again for the first time. The guy was bigger than I have ever been used too, but it didn't cause any pain or discomfort. Afterwards, I noticed a lot of blood down there and when I went to clean up, I really the blood was gushing and not stopping. It continued to bleed out for 2 hours straight, blood was everywhere. I felt no cramps or anything else, do you have any idea what could have caused this? I do have a vertical vaginal septum, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

A young woman may not know she has a vaginal septum until she starts her period or becomes sexually active for the first time. Typically, a girl who has a vaginal septum may tell her health care provider that she has vaginal bleeding (on her underwear) even though she has a tampon in, or she may mention that she has discomfort with sexual intercourse. This is because there are two sides to the vagina.

Vaginal septum CAN be treated with a fairly simply surgical procedure that involves removing the tissue in the middle, to create a single vagina. When the septum is corrected, tampon use and sex are usually comfortable.
