Hello,

I can understand your concern. Prolonged bleeding cycles and heavy bleeding, spotting between two cycles, painful mesntruation etc are common side effects of Mirena insertion. They will fade away in a few weeks to few months. So if the bleeding is getting lighter and pain is not debilitating, you can wait for some days for it to stop and the body will get adjusted to Mirena.

However, if the bleeding gets heavier day-by-day, the pain worsens, you develop fever or foul smelling discharge, you should consult a doctor immediately as it indicates presence of bacterial infection.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if I can be of further help.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
