What Causes Heavy Bleeding After Using Depo Provera Injection?

I was on the depo shot from june until september, i pretty much bled the whole time so came september i went back on jolivette. Since september i have bled a few days the end of september, spotted for a few days in november, nothing in december, but yesterday i started with light cramps and only spotting when i wiped. When i have wiped its either a bright red, or a reddish/brown gooey type discharge. In my birth control pack, in a day i will be on my sugar pills. I m worried because i haven t had a steady period since the depo, and im not sure if what i m experiencing is a period or spotting from the pill and coming off depo

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Persons can react differently to hormonal birth control. Abnormal or heavy bleeding is one of the possible reactions to this medication.

The depo can sometimes take a few months to leave your system but after 6 to 9 months, your period should go back to its base line state (how it was before depo).

If you continue to have problems then your doctor may want to consider blood tests (hormonal blood tests) to rule out other causes of the irregular bleeding.

I hope this helps
