What Causes Heavy And Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding?

I have had an copper IUD for around 1 year, with normal periods. I got my period on the first of April and it lasted until the 8th, normal length and normal time. A little over a week later, I got a light period that turned into a very heavy period. It has lasted for 2 weeks. I am nervous and do not know if I should go to the hospital or if it is normal.

Hi, I think you should consult a gynecologist for complete examination. It can be a side effect of IUD, but you will need to rule out the other causes. Get a thyroid profile and prolactin level and a ultrasound done to see uterus and ovaries to find out any other cause of heavy bleeding. You can take some medicines like tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. Hope it helps.
