What Causes Heartburn, abdominal Pain, Nause And Vomiting?

My husband is taking Cymbalta (90 mg/day), Trazidone, fluoxetine, Xanax, and various asthma medicines. He also takes Ambien to sleep. Lately, he s been complaining of near-constant heartburn, abdominal pain and nausea, and has been waking in the middle of the night vomiting (I mean, he s already retching before he wakes). The Trazidone and fluoxetine were added recently, but he had this problem sporadically prior to that. What could be causing the somnambulistic vomiting?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The symptoms are in keeping with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease which can be worse at night or in the early morning.

It is treated with lifestyle changes and medication.

The lifestyle changes include : (1) not going to be with a full stomach- wait at least 2 hours after eating before laying down
(2)weight loss of any excess weight
(3)reduce any spicy/acidic/fatty/fried foods
(4)small meals regularly instead of large meals
(5)avoid alcohol or smoking

There are medications such as prilosec, prevacid, protonix, nexium that would also help.

I hope this helps
