What Causes Heart Palpitations, Hand Tremors And Blurred Vision?

I realize I need to seek medical attention, but I want to discuss my symptoms before rushing into the ER. I am a 43-year-old female who is under a tremendous amount of stress and occasionally experience irregular heart palpitations; one regular beat, one hard, slow beat followed by no beat at all, and then back to a regular beat. But when I inhale during this time my heart begins to beat very fast, my hands and arms shake, the left side of my throat and jaw tightens, my vision becomes a little blurry, and occasionally I get a sharp stabbing pain in my right temple when I exhale. My question for you is, am I experiencing anxiety or could it be the onset of something more serious?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern.

1. As you are a young female thus probable cause could be:
. anxiety [stress]
. overactive thyroid
. could be LVH [left ventricular hypetrophy/Arrhythmias] but to exclude these consultation with a Cardiologist or Medicine specialist is necessary

2. Schematic Examination will be:
. first palpate the pulse for tachycardia & arrhythmias. If pulse rate is > 90, look for thyroid swelling, then auscultate the heart for murmurs and look for heaving apex beat of left ventricular hypertrophy

3. If no response to general treatment for Anxiety [beta blockers/ tranquilisers], then
. serum T3,T4,TSH-to rule out hyperthyroidism
. ECG & Holter moniter test: to rule out arrhythmias
. blood sugar to exclude hypoglycemia

4. Avoid excess tea/coffee
. avoid alcohol & smoking
. avoid mental strain
