Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I have been to the doctor several times. I have had a cough for over 2 months. It is way inside. it started with a pain in my ribs, but more like my lungs (my inards hurt). The doctor took a chest xray and it came out normal. They put me on hydrocodone because I was not sleeping. It did not help. Then I was put on Zpac. That did not work at all. So I went to a different doctor and she requested a CT scan to check for a blood clot. That came back normal. Now my lungs no longer hurt but my heart does. It hurts to cough, sneeze and take deep breathes. I also can't lift a whole lot or I get a sharp pain. I do cough up mucus (greenish white). I hate taking medicine and turned down taking a steroid. I have taken more medicine in two months than I have taken my entire life. I want to be back to normal. What is wrong? Please help.
Hi,welcome to HCM. Your symptoms largely point to INFECTIOUS PERICARDITIS.This can lead to chronic cough along with mucous expectoration. It can also lead to positional variations in cough and associated pain due to spread of infection to localized lung.I highly recommend a 2 D Echocardiography of the heart.Ultrasound guided pericardial fluid tapping for culture sensitivity can help to place specific antibiotics.Steroids should be used only in presence of severe infection and not routinely.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you
