What Causes Heart Murmur?

I went last week for a regular check up and my doctor told me I had a heart murmur. I was surprised I was never told this before. I am 68 yrs old and in fairly good health, should I be worried about this. She has me going to see a heart doctor next month. I am a little concerned.

Hi There

After going through your query I understand your concern.

I would like to tell you that there are two types of heart murmur , innocent & abnormal. innocent common in newborn and children. But abnormal heart murmur is usually caused by congenital heart disease in children and in adults, abnormal murmurs are most often due to acquired heart valve problems.

Kindly Get once ECG and Echocardiography done to evaluate any underlying heart disease for proper management.

Hope to have been helpful.

Kind Regards
Dr. Navneet Bansal
