What Causes Heart Murmur With History Of Having Hole In Heart?

Hi doctor, When I was about 5 I had a heart murmur, it was a hole the size of a pin needle. I had to see a heart doctor a bunch of times when I was young to make sure it was closing on its own, eventually it did. But today I was at the doctors, and she detected a heart murmur. This was the first time in about 11 years that this has happened. I am very concerned, I have a follow up in a month. Can this be another hole?

Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
I have gone through your description and it appears that the hole which was existing before must have been closed. Murmurs not caused only due to presence of holes in the heart. It can occur due to several causes like incompetent valves or defective pumping of heart. Sometimes, it can be physiological also or caused due to anaemia.
In your case, since it is detected, you need to undergo Echocardiogram with colour Doppler study to know the cause.
Kindly consult Cardiologist with the report for proper evaluation and management.
