What Causes Hearing Loss When Diagnosed With Cerebral Arteriosclerosis?

Mother in law is 103yrs old. Diagnosed with cerebral arteriosclerosis. Renal failure end stage, congestive heart. Has trouble with ankle edema. Lost one side of her hearing (due to being over medicated p.m. dose of hydralazine, when it should have been held... this is strictly My guess. Given oxy for pain.what kind of pain, not sure. I think it s from the kindneys. My question is...is her continued loss of hearing due to further cerebral arteriosclerosis damage? We will be taking her to a autolaringologist to check for ear wax. Then to her audiologist to have her hearing aid be checked via computer. She is taken care of by sister-in-law, in her mobil home. She is on hospice. They seem to be reluctant to give a diuretic med. I say, she must, otherwise she may face a hospital visit and I.v. meds to flush her fluids out. What do you have to say. Thank you for your input. Concerned. /S.H.

Greetings
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Ur Mother in law seem to be having multiple disorders like Renal failure, heart failure and cerebral vascular disease. But your question is about her hearing loss.

With so many problems going on ,there is always chances of other systems ,like hearing, sight ,speaking etc may be effected either directly or indirectly. In the case of your Mother in law,the biggest factor is her age .103 years is well beyond the normal life expectance and old age causes stiffening of the parts with in the ears which is called as Otosclerosis. Then the main processing center for hearing also is with the brain .As the brain has atherosclerosis this compounds the effect of hearing loss due to age. As far as ear wax is concerned , it is wise to get it cleaned by a specialist but that doesnt seem to be the main problem here.

What we can do is that proper medication be taken regularly with relevant labs to avoid worsening of the problem.Secondly ,otolyrangologist may help you in this regards by advising a surgery ,but old age plus many organs in bad shape will make the surgery not feasible .

I hope the answer was helpful. In case you need any further assistance feel free to contact in writing.
