What Causes Headache, Throat Pain, Cough And Pink Eye?

I came down with what I thought was a bad cold last week. It started with a major headache followed by my throat hurting on one side, a mild cough, drainage and a pink eye. I went to the doctor as I was leaving town and got a script for pink eye though it was not conclusive that is what I had. It is almost a week later. I feel good during the day but I wake up with swollen eyes, when I lay down to sleep my cough starts and the other side of my throat hurts. Is this viral? Do I need to see my doctor again?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query you have headache, throat pain, cough, and pink eye. There are some factors like our environment, heat, cold, pressure, and sun exposure, which can act as a trigger factor. Insect bite, pollen, and some plants can also cause such allergic reaction. I would suggest you to give cold compresses to eyes several times a day to prevent swelling and itching and take over-the-counter antihistamine drug like Benadryl and do warm saline gargles. Take 1 spoon of honey twice a day which is good for allergy. If symptoms still persist then consult a dermatologist for proper examination and treatment. Doctor may refer you to an ENT specialist for sore throat or ophthalmologist for an eye problem. Stay in the cool and moist environment, also keep yourself hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
