What Causes Headache Near Temple Region?

82 YO WF smoker advises of sharp pain near left temple. Says pain came on all of a sudden and really hurt. Pain subsided but returned within one minute. Seems to be coming and going. Says she has never had that kind of pain before. She ate about 1030 am and took her vitamin today. Should I just monitor her or is there greater cause for concern. She says she doesn't have any other pains and is talking fine. No meds and no diagnosed illnesses at this time.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Possible temporal arteritis leading to throbbing headache.
2. Would require a arterial biopsy for confirmation.
3. Once confirmed, needs to start on steroids to avoid further inflammation. Need to start on corticosteroids and additionally ecosprin. Meet your neurologist for biopsy confirmation and treatment.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
