What Causes Headache In A Child?

My five old son has headache and for two consecutive days and awakes from sleeping saying he has head pain and pain in his cheek as well. he went swimming yesterday and this symptoms happened after an hour from swimming. We went to doctor and advised that it is a bacterial infection. Still worried as it is uncommon to have a headache in a kids that awakes him from sleep

Hi, thank you for contacting us. Continue to take the advice of the pediatrician, but another avenue you could also consider is your son grinding his teeth at night. This would cause headaches and muscle tension in his cheek. All night long, as he's grinding, he's recruiting the muscles around the cheeks, temples, & across the forehead to fire. When these muscles are working overtime like this all night, he can have a headache. Take a look at his mouth. See if you can identify any baby teeth that may be worn down a bit. Also, it is very common for children that have crossbites to grind. The upper teeth belong on the outter edges of the lower teeth. In essence, the lower teeth are housed by the upper. When the lower teeth are outside of the upper teeth, this is called a crossbite. Your child may not have a comfortable bite, so he grinds all night to find a bite that fits. Consider taking him to a pediatric dentist to identify wear or crossbite and mention the headaches.
