What Causes Hard Stool Movement In Infants?

My 2 year old niece is constantly constipated and poops maybe once a week. When she does, she her poop is large in size causing her extreme pain and trauma trying to pass it. My sister-in-law has tried laxatives and has finally scheduled a GI appointment for her. I m curious can something serious be wrong as her stomach makes wild noises, she screams in pain and the process of passing the poop is long and drawn out that she is exhausted when she does and not quite herself. Any suggestions?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, it may not be the serious condition but it may be due to some less water drinking low fiber diet, it is advisable to encourage the child for drinking water, but sure it may not be anything serious hope this information helps.
