What Causes Hair Loss And Memory Loss During Low Hematocrit And Hemoglobin Count?

Hi, I began to have low hemoglobin and low hematocrit counts, and slightly low white blood cell counts, about six months ago. My levels continue to drop as the months go by. I have lost 25 lbs., hair, and have memory loss. Intermittently I have had high iron levels, so I don't have iron deficiency anemia. I have mostly given up alcohol, although I wasn't drinking a lot before the blood count issues. I was taking a lot of ibuprofen and naproxen for headaches and bursitis up until 4 months ago. My hematologist seems perplexed, although she is planning to do a bone marrow biopsy. Do you have any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

Yes bone marrie biopsy is indicated for you. Your problem may be related to a bome marrow dysfunction or hyperfunction causing reduced number of cells. I would not give a definitive diagnosis till a bone marrow biopsy results are there.
