What Causes Hair Loss And Gynecomastia?

dear doc... my problem is very simple but i am so confused.. I am 22years and excersise alot, really hate junk food.. have quit smoking about 3 years ago alchohol very rarely.... nothing else like this. but still face these two problems.
problem no.1.. for the last 6 years i am suffering from hair loss.. and my head crown is almost clear. and i had very thick and volumed hair which are now seem to be very very thin.. after a lot of research i found that this may be due to High DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) in my body...
Problem no 2 is that It seems that i am suffering from gynecomastia... due to high level of estrogen in my body.. so my earnest desire is to know what would be the exact reason behind all this and what are the names of hormonal test to be conducted to check the acute reasons for my illness... It would be really good if you consider my querry and show me the exact path..

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi,

I have carefully gone through your concern. Your logic in explaining your problems is right. Gynecomastia in adolescence is a common finding and usually it resolves at the age of 20-ies, anyway there are cases when it persist. A prolactin secreting tumor should be excluded and some other hormones checked:

- Prolactin level at 8.00 am
- Testosterone and estrogen
- TSH
- SHBG

If everything results within the normal ranges, than surgical intervention will help to decrease the breast and finasteride shampoo to improve the hair loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Dr. Mirjeta
