What Causes Gum Recession On Teeth?

Hi, I am 22 years old with gum recession on teeth 8, 9, and 7, especially 7. I have been told by a Periodontist that I should get a gum graft on 7, that there was bone loss. He did not acknowledge the recession on 8 or 9. I asked him twice if the recession was from gum disease, and twice he said no, saying it was "anatomical." He also said it was not from improper brushing. I had another dentist tell me the same thing two months before, when the recession was less noticeable. What exactly does that mean, and how do I keep it from getting worse if I can't ascertain the cause?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of gum recession of teeth which is mainly because of anatomy of gums i.e your gingival contour line is below normal and other reasons are abnormal position of tooth or misalignment , thin gingiva at some places . Genetic factor also play role in deciding anatomy

Need not to panic about it. Go to periodontist and go for gingival graft and bone re-contouring which is a normal procedure. Connective tissue graft will best and commonly used graft .

But i must tell you that improper brushing technique will make the condition complicated . So its better to learn proper brushing technique . Also use ultra soft brush . Avoid chewing tobacco and maintain proper oral hygiene

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
