What Causes Groin Pain?

I ve been getting small to medium pain on the left side of my groin for a few weeks after football training but today after football it has become unbearable when I lift my leg without any assistance. It s not to bad when there is no pressure whatsoever but when I go to stand up or take a step, the pain comes back immediately.
