My upper lip is swollen. It began about two hours ago. I have taken benadryl but the swelling has not receded. This happens to me every couple of months. Sometimes I break out in hives on my head, chest arms and stomach too. What could be the cause and how can I get it to stop.
Hi. As per your case history you are having angioedema. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid fast food and food with artificial colors for 2 months. 2. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 6 weeks. 3. Don't take any medication without consulting a doctor as it may worsen the condition. 4. Other treatment options are oral hydroxyzine, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
