What Causes Frequent Nasal Bleeding In A Child?

Hi, I have a three year old child whose nose bleeds on average twice a week. This has been going on for the past year. The bleeding usually stops between 1 and 5 minutes. Sometimes it bleeds when she plays hard (like jumps repeatedly), and other times when she sleeps or for no apparent reason. She has no bruising or dizziness, or shows any signs of weakness. Could this be caused by an underlying serious condition?

Nasal bleeding in children is usually selflimiting. Causes are ...nose picking, trauma during playing.

In your case particularly, frequency is more...(twice a week) which needs evaluation.

This could be due to

1) increased dryness of nasal mucosa (dry weather, winter) which predisposes unprovoked nasal bleeding.

2) certain rare cancer of nasal mucosa(rabdomyosarcoma, heamangioma)

3)coagulation disorders...where blood fails to clot properly.

In your case, first option seems most possible.
