What Causes Frequent Episodes Of Seizure While On Antiepileptic Medication?

Yesterday I had a seizure at 10 am. apparently from the onlookers; I turned my head away from the person I talked to, went ashen and my lips went blue then I began to seize. they tried to move me into the recovery position but I was rigid. I relieved my self and bit down on both sides of my skin. I have had a similar episode to this when I was 18. Also last year while I was on fluoxitne, propanonol and diazapam I had 4 episodes on a weekly basis. I have had nothing since then. The consultants did a head CT and an EEG. The results were inconclusive but the consultant felt that I had a lower threshold to epilepsy and the medication I was on contributed to this. I haven't been on any medication though since the beginning of this year. So I am puzzled by this seizure. I had not had a lot of sleep (3.5 hrs) having been to midnight mass and getting up to see my son open his presents. I had had 1 measure of port having come back from church and I had 2 large cups of peppermint tea at 8am on Christmas morning and the seizure was just before ten. I am trying to work out what could have set it off and the only thing that is the same now as last year is I was drinking herbal teas of which peppermint is my favorite. Could this have caused my seizure?

Neurologist 's  Response
I read your question and I am sorry that you've had a re-occurrence of your seizures.
As you have been already told that you have a low threshold for seizures, you must understand that there are many possible factors driving you over this threshold, not necessarily the same ones for every seizure, at times no factor can be found no matter how hard you try.
To my knowledge there is no association between peppermint tea and seizures.
On the other hand there is a certain correlation between sleep deprivation and seizures so for this particular seizure that might have been a contributing factor so try to avoid that happening again. If you have frequent seizures in the future your current therapy should be reconsidered with your following neurologist (actually you don't mention that are you taking now but in the title to your query you say you're on antiepileptic medication).
Hope to have been of some help and I wish you good health. Feel free to ask further questions.
